Dreaming South Africa

'Dreaming South Africa'
mixed media - giclee and oil on canvas - 100 X 74 cm - 2010

Mirta Kupferminc has been selected to represent Argentina at the upcoming World Cup, to take place in South Africa starting June 2010. She is the only Argentine woman artist to participate in the art exhibition accompanying the world's largest sport event.
In this painting Mirta Kupferminc represents Africa as Mother Earth, her soil giving birth to life, represented by grass in the colors of the South African flag. A giant football is emerging, made of earth and acquiring the golden hues of the world cup. All men and continents are represented by a symbolic sillhouette bearing the Argentinean colors and containing innumerable shapes, among which we can recognize the dialogue between Argentina and South Africa, in the upper left. On the lower part of the painting we can see three men of different ages, who in Argentina are Dreaming South Africa.
